GAME 2 BOX SCORE
CHICAGO, ILL. The Seton Hall softball team was held in check offensively in both games of a doubleheader at DePaul on Saturday, falling 3-0 and 8-0. The Pirates (3-16, 0-2) managed just three hits on the day against the No. 24 Blue Demons (18-7, 2-0).
In the opener, DePaul accounted for each of the game’s three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Facing SHU’s Kim Schweitzer (Syracuse, N.Y.), Amber Patton started the rally with a one-out bunt single. After stealing second, Patton was brought home on an RBI single from Kate Sheaks. The Blue Demons kept their running game going as Sheaks swiped second before Schweitzer struck out Becca Heteniak for the second out. Marcy Wilus followed with a single and took second as Sheaks advanced to third. Jackie Tarulli-Fish knocked in both runners with a double before the Pirates finally got out of the inning.
SHU was held hitless until the top of the seventh when Laura Baranek (Orefield, Pa.) and Leah Menichetti (Jessup, Pa.) led off with singles. DePaul’s Tracie Adix recovered to snuff out the rally, inducing back-to-back fielder’s choices before getting Jenna Best (Medford, N.J.) to ground out to first for the final out.
Schweitzer fell to 2-9 on the season after lasting 4.2 innings on the hill.
In game two, Maura Lund (Oak Park, Ill.) held DePaul down through the first two innings before the Blue Demons finally broke through in the third. After singling with two outs, Sheaks was plated by a triple from Amber Patton to make it 1-0. After hitting a batter and giving up a walk in the fourth inning, Lund was touched up for a three-run homerun by Stephanie Blagaich that gave DePaul a four-run cushion.
Wilus homered in the fifth off Ashley Constantini (Newark, Del.), and the Blue Demons closed the game out in the sixth on a two-RBI single from Sheaks and a Patton sacrifice fly off Danielle Zanzalari (Carteret, N.J.) that made it 8-0.
Daria Glynos (Kenilworth, N.J.) picked up the only Pirate hit. Lund took the loss, bringing her to 0-3 thus far on the season.
The Pirates return to action tomorrow with a twin-bill at Notre Dame beginning at 11:00 a.m.
