Â
AGAINST VILLANOVA
Seton Hall and Villanova will meet for the second time this season with the Pirates looking to avoid a season sweep. The Wildcats have a commanding 52-26 all-time series lead and have won six of the last seven games against The Hall. The Pirates' last victory over Villanova in Walsh Gym came on Feb. 13, 2022.
Â
EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST VILLANOVA
The Seton Hall women's basketball team fell behind late in the first half and couldn't recover in a 72-55 loss at Villanova on Dec. 19.
Â
The game was lost for the Pirates in the final five minutes of the first half. Villanova connected on five of seven three-pointer attempts in the final 4:14 of the first half and the Pirates trailed at the half for the first time this season. Nova's Ryanne Allen was 5-for-6 from three-point range in the first half alone.
Â
Adding to the Pirates' woes, both Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) and Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) played a combined two minutes in the fourth quarter because of injuries. Sophomore Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) led the Pirates with 12 points to go with four rebounds. Catalon had 11 points and six rebounds.
Â
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
Villanova enters Thursday's contest with a 22-6 overall record and a 15-4 mark in BIG EAST play. Like The Hall, the Wildcats have already clinched a bye in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament and have been guaranteed the No. 2 seed. Villanova has won seven of its last eight games, with its lone loss coming against top-ranked UConn. The Wildcats lost by only 15 points to the Huskies, by far UConn's toughest test so far this season. Jasmine Bascoe currently ranks second in the BIG EAST with 18.4 points per game. Brynn McCurry is averaging 11.0 points and a team-best 5.4 rebounds per contest.
