NEW YORK – Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Kleinsmith (Monument, Colo.) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week as the conference announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
In addition to Kleinsmith, Kaylin Mallon (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Tuva Norell (Stockholm, Sweden) were each named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Kleinsmith made seven saves as part of her seventh clean sheet of the season in the Pirates' 1-0 win over Providence on Saturday. The sophomore is putting together a stellar season between the pipes, as she currently leads the nation in save percentage and ranks third in goals against average.
Norell and Mallon each played instrumental roles in Saturday's win. Norell played all 90 minutes on the Pirate backline to help preserve the ninth shutout of the season for the Pirates, setting a new program record. Mallon would be the one to find the back of the net in the 71st minute, with Norell earning the secondary assist after a free kick.
The Pirates look to continue the momentum on Wednesday night when they host Villanova at 6 p.m.
