Seton Hall will return to action this week with a pair of BIG EAST Conference opponents in historic Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates will host Butler on Friday, Oct. 2 at 5:00 p.m., and then Xavier on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4:00 p.m.

SCOUTING BUTLER
Seton Hall and Butler will resume its BIG EAST rivalry on Wednesday. The Bulldogs currently own a 16-7 all-time series lead and have won the last three matches and 13 of the last 15 in the series. Last season, Butler swept the Pirates in their only meeting at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Oct. 24.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 12-17 season last year, which included a 5-11 mark in BIG EAST play. Butler closed the season on a five-match losing streak and did not qualify for the postseason. This season, the Bulldogs were picked to finish ninth in 11-team BIG EAST, according to the preseason coaches' poll. Senior Elise Ward was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Butler enters the weekend with an 8-6 overall record and a perfect 2-0 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs opened the season with wins in five of its first six matches, but then dropped five of six. They opened BIG EAST play in strong fashion last weekend, sweeping Villanova on Friday before defeating Georgetown in four sets on Saturday. Carly Slusser is currently fourth in the conference with a .375 attack percentage and sixth with 1.25 blocks per set.

SCOUTING XAVIER
Seton Hall and Xavier will meet up for the 24th time in history on Saturday with the Musketeers owning an 18-5 all-time series lead. Xavier has won six out of the last seven meetings, including a sweep of the Pirates in Cincinnati in their lone match last season.

The Musketeers are coming off one of their most-successful campaigns in program history in 2025, which featured a 26-5 final record and a 14-2 mark in BIG EAST play. Xavier earned the No. 2 seed for the BIG EAST Tournament and swept No. 3 Villanova before being swept by No. 1 Creighton in the title game. The Musketeers earned an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament, but was swept by Michigan in the opening round.

This season, the Musketeers were picked to finish fourth in 11-team BIG EAST, according to the preseason coaches' poll. Junior Margo Kemp and sophomore McKinley Boehm were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Xavier enters the weekend with a 9-4 overall record and a perfect 2-0 mark in conference play. The Musketeers went 7-4 in non-conference play and registered some impressive victories, including a four-set win at Notre Deame on Aug. 30. They've won three matches in a row and opened BIG EAST play with a sweep of Georgetown on Friday before defeating Villanova in five sets on Saturday. Charlotte Moriarty leads the team and ranks sixth in the BIG EAST with 3.18 kills per set, while Kelsey Niesen ranks third with 4.33 digs per set.

Next week, the Pirates will head on the road for the first time in BIG EAST play. The Hall play at Providence on Friday, Oct. 9, before facing Connecticut in Storrs on Saturday, Oct. 10.
