SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Alondra Villanueva (Lima, Peru) had a match-high 14 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to No. 25 Creighton, 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 23-25), on Friday.

Before a raucous Walsh Gym crowd, the Pirates were up to the challenge of facing a team they had lost 22 consecutive matches and 62 straight sets to. The Hall posted an impressive .275 attack percentage for the match, and scored 23 points in the third, but ultimately couldn't get over the hump.

Villanueva had 14 kills, only four attack errors and three digs. Junior Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) had 26 assists and four digs. Sophomore Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) finished with nine kills, only two attack errors and a .368 attack percentage.

SET 1:
Seton Hall burst out of the gate early against Creighton, scoring the first five points of the set. A 10-5 run by the Bluejays tied the set at 10. With the score tied at 14, Creighton scored five of the next six points to grab a 19-15 advantage. A kill by Villanueva cut The Hall's deficit to 21-19, but the Bluejays scored the final four points of the set to win, 25-19.

SET 2:
Creighton scored the first five points of the second set and never looked back. The leads shrank to as few as three points on another kill by Villanueva, 12-9, but Seton Hall couldn't get closer in a 25-18 loss. The Pirates committed only three attack errors and had an impressive .333 attack percentage in the second set, but Creighton's efficiency was a remarkable .625.

SET 3:
The final set featured 10 ties and three lead changes. Back-to-back aces by Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) gave The Hall a 21-18 lead and forced a Creighton timeout. The Bluejays regrouped out of the break, however, and scored three straight to tie the set at 21. A kill by Safian put The Hall up, 22-21, but a pair of Creighton points put the Pirates down, 23-22. Another kill by Safian tied the set at 23, but Creighton was able to stave off The Hall by scoring the final two points of the set.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Villanueva had a team-best 14 kills with only four attack errors, a .333 attack percentage and three digs.
Adler tallied a team-high 26 assists with four digs and two kills.
Safian had nine kills, only two attack errors and a .368 attack percentage.
Seton Hall recorded a .275 attack percentage for the match, while Creighton attacked at .433.
The Pirates had 37 kills, while Creighton had 47.
The Hall tallied 30 digs, while the Bluejays had 34.
Seton Hall had 1.0 team blocks, while Creighton had 5.0.

NEWS & NOTES:

Seton Hall falls to 8-6 overall and 0-2 in the BIG EAST, while Creighton improves to 6-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Hall drops to 3-24 all-time against the Bluejays and has now lost 23 consecutive matches and 64 straight sets in the series.
The Pirates are now 3-4 in three-set matches this season.
Seton Hall scored 23 points in a single-set against Creighton for the first time since scoring 24 in the first set in Walsh Gym on Oct. 2, 2021.
