PHILADELPHIA – Behind goals from Gianna Angelillo and Nina Davis, the Seton Hall women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 2-0 victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Pirates have their first five-game unbeaten stretch to open a season since 2012, when they started 5-0.
How it Happened
Despite being outshot, 9-2, in the first half of the game, it was the Pirates who were able to cash in on its attacking opportunities. In the 18th minute, Seton Hall got on the board after Davis crossed a ball into the middle of the penalty area. The pass found a wide open Angelillo, who buried her fifth goal of the season to put the Pirates in front.
The backline for the Pirates held strong throughout, as well as goalkeeper Avery Strohecker who was tasked with making seven saves on the afternoon. Four of those saves came before halftime, as the sophomore goalkeeper was able to maintain the Pirates' advantage heading into halftime.
In the 58th minute, Seton Hall would double its lead thanks to some opportunistic play. After a Drexel restart on a goal kick, the Pirate forwards applied heavy pressure to force a turnover at the top of the 18-yard box. After Abby Udowenko intercepted an errant pass from the Drexel keeper, she found Davis inside the area to cash in Seton Hall's second goal of the day.
