South Orange, N.J. — Anthony Ehly threw four scoreless relief innings and posted a career-high four strikeouts while Jimmy Brennan and Kevin Milewski each tied season highs with four RBI in the Seton Hall baseball team's 13-3 victory over Princeton in eight innings at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Ehly earned the win on the mound for the Pirates and he was followed by Patrick Benn and Jordan Marot, who came on in relief to throw three combined scoreless innings. Aiden Robbins recorded his 17th multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-3 with three runs scored, three walks and an RBI.
How It Happened
The game got off to an ominous start for the Pirates as the Tigers pushed across three run in the top of the first inning. The Pirates answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning where they loaded the bases and Brennan tied up the game with one swing as his fifth home run of the season made it a 3-3 ballgame. After Ehly struck out the side in his first inning of work, he also fanned the first two batter in the top of the second inning before sitting down the Tigers in the order.
Seton Hall extended its lead in the bottom of the second where Magnus Krieger drove in two runs with a base hit to left field, Robbins had an RBI single and Ryan Frontera drew a bases loaded walk that made it 7-3 Pirates. Ehly continued to roll in the third and fourth innings where he retired six of the next seven batters he faced. Benn came on in the top of the fifth inning and was greeted with a leadoff triple and an infield single. Benn would settle in though and struck out the next batter before inducing an inning-ending double play.
The Hall was still only leading by four heading into the bottom of the fifth but it would eventually tack on insurance runs that led to a run rule victory. Marco Ali drove in Casey Cumiskey on an RBI groundout in the fifth and Brennan picked up his fourth RBI of the game with a run scoring double down the left field line that gave the Pirates a 9-3 lead. The Pirates loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Milewski stepped to the dish and hit his eighth home run of the season that extended Seton Hall's advantage to 13-3 and put the run rule in effect.
