New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team earned its first spring victory of 2024 after a very strong team showing in a 6-1 win over Wagner, Saturday night at Murray Hill Tennis 7 Fitness. The Pirates swept in doubles and five Pirates were victorious with straight set victories.
"The freshmen continued to be impressive in both singles and doubles," head coach James Enzler said. "Aina [Plana Ventosa] is really finding her confidence in singles as well, which is great to see and hope that it can continue. It was also great to experience Aili [Hietala] get her first spring win as a Pirate."
Seton Hall quickly earned the doubles point with a clean sweep of the Seahawks. At No. 1, Anastasia Sereda and Aina Plana Ventosa defeated Gabrielle Perraudin and Paula Ysabelle Uy, 6-2. At No. 2, one night after winning a thrilling tiebreaker, Arabella Moen and Hili Kronzon cruised past Tara Dakic and Dariana Vera, 6-4. At No. 3, Imogen Brooker and Niamh Campbell made it 2-for-2 on the weekend, defeating Jasmine Lin and Samantha Bentsianov, 6-2.
In Seton Hall's five singles victories, the Pirates didn't give up more than five games. At No. 1 singles, Sereda quickly pulled away from Perraudin, 6-1, 6-1, to avenge a fall loss to her at the Fordham Invitational. At No. 2, Brooker won a second straight night, taking down Dakic, 6-3, 6-3.Â
Plana Ventosa was a No. 4 singles winner, beating Bentsianov, 6-3, 6-2. Campbell topped Vera, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5 for her first spring singles victory. Aili Hietala made her spring debut with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lin at No. 6.
Seton Hall will return to action next weekend with a Friday night road match at Monmouth followed by a Saturday home clash with Rutgers that will take place at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness at 5:45 p.m.
