Pirates Start the Season 1-0 with Convincing Home Win

South Orange, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team swept doubles and then took five of six singles matches in a convincing and decisive 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's Friday at the Campus Courts in Ivy Hill Park.
"We picked up a strong first dual win today," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "We've had a big focus on finding our identity in doubles this fall, and today we looked very strong in that department. I feel like we have some doubles pairings that gel very well so far, so hoping that continues for fall and then into spring."
The Pirates only gave up six points during the doubles round, cruising to a sweep. The tandem of Rachel Benoualid and Niamh Campbell, in the No. 3 position, finished first, defeating Valeria Casusol and Amari O'Brien, 6-1. Ellie Coe and Imogen Brooker followed with a strong 6-3 performance over Jolie Kaiser and Victoria Tracey on the No. 2 court. Then Kira Farrakhova and Jaden Davidson finished the sweep with a 6-2 win over Elena Fleming and June Tronhus.
In singles, Seton Hall won 10 of 13 sets, headlined by Farrakhova on the No. 1 court. She dispatched Tracey, 6-1, 6-1. Making her Pirates dual match debut, Sofia Segui defeated O'Brien, 6-3, 6-2.
Seton Hall will return to the hidden duals format next weekend, playing at New Haven on Saturday, Oct. 3.
