Little Silver, N.J. - Five Pirates secured straight sets singles victories to lead the Seton Hall women's tennis team to a 5-2 win over Monmouth, Friday night at the Little Silver Tennis Club.
Anastasia Sereda, Imogen Brooker, Aina Plana Ventosa, Niamh Campbell and Hili Kronzon all came away victorious.
"As a team, we played very well in singles," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "We started slow, and give credit to them, they came out incredibly hot in doubles and took care of business, winning the doubles point very efficiently. We have to continue focusing on trusting our shots and moving the ball better at the baseline."
Despite Plana Ventosa and Sereda earning a win at No. 1 doubles, Monmouth took the doubles point and the early advantage. However, it was mostly all Pirates from there. Sereda was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Lana Brezanin at No. 1. Brooker improved to 3-0 in singles on the young season with her 6-4, 6-2 victory over Hana McKinney at No. 2.
Plana Ventosa also improved to 3-0 in singles after dispatching Lenien Jamir at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4. Campbell picked up her second win of the sesaon with a 7-6(8), 6-3 victory over Lauren Landstrom.
Competing in her first singles match of the year, Kronzon won her first set over Madison Mills, who then defaulted the match.
Seton Hall is back at home Saturday night to take on Rutgers at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J. Match time is 5:45 p.m.
