NEW YORK – Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) has been named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
In his first season as a full-time starter, the junior made his imprint immediately with the game-winning goal in the 1-0 season-opening victory over FIU.
Resch was an essential force along a backline that helped the Pirates produce one of the school's best defensive seasons in modern times. The Argentinan played a major role the Pirates give up the fewest goals since the team's 2020 BIG EAST-winning campaign and helped produce the most clean sheets since the 2004 season. Over the course of the season, Resch claimed weekly awards from BIG EAST twice, landing BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors on August 26, and earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on October 7.
Outside of South Orange, Resch key to one of the best defenses in recent history for the Pirates, but the Pirates earned national attention for the team's defense. His play down the Pirates' spine helped the team to a tie for second-fewest goals allowed in BIG EAST play and tied for the 32nd fewest goals allowed per game in the nation.
Resch ends the season with 17 starts in 17 appearances, 1450 total minutes (second most on the team) and one goal on 15 shots (third most shots on the team).
