Pirates Draw Rutgers 2-2 in Garden State Clash
8/25/2025 12:55:00 AM | Men's Soccer
The Pirates found themselves down 1-0 early after a defensive miscue on a corner kick led to a goal. Seton Hall surged back, however, scoring two unanswered goals and tallying an immense 15 total shots. The lead proved hard to hold on to, as Rutgers would tie the game in the 82nd minute off a shot from distance. The Pirates' attempts for a counter in the closing minutes could not find a response, leading to a draw.
With the draw, The Hall moves to 1-0-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
An early Pirates attacking salvo off a corner kick in the 11th minute provided the home side with early momentum, but Rutgers would strike first in the 18th minute. Off a corner kick, a defensive miscue by the Pirates led to an easy strike by the Scarlet Knights that gave the intra-state rivals an early 1-0 lead.
After continually poking, Seton Hall found its response in the 32nd minute. Off a Rutgers set piece, Mikkel Lejbowicz took the ball in the defending third and ran with it. The Dane went end-to-end before driving the ball past the goalie at the far post, tying the game at 1-1 before the halftime break.

Coming out of the break, Seton Hall continued to prod Rutgers' defense in search of an advantage. In the 69th minute, a Pirates' breakaway led to a three-shot sequence by the Pirates, but none of them found the back of the net. However, two minutes later, off a corner for The Hall, Hugo Gerbore laced a beautiful ball to the towering head of Agustin Resch, who sent the ball into the back of the net to put the Pirates up 2-1.

Almost immediately, the Scarlet Knights made four changes in hopes of responding to The Hall's lead. In the 82nd minute, they found an equalizer on a long-distance shot to make it a 2-2 game. Despite some fresh legs off the bench entering the game, the clock was the Pirates' biggest enemy. They would land one more shot before the clock expired, ending this year's rivalry match against Rutgers in a draw.
