Strong Second Half Not Enough For Hall At Yale

New Haven, Conn. — Junior Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) tallied her fifth goal of the season in the second half against Yale but the Seton Hall women's soccer team couldn't come up with the equalizer as the Pirates were tripped up against the Bulldogs, 2-1, on Thursday evening.
The Pirates move to 3-3-1 on the young season despite a strong second half effort in New Haven. Tavana now moves into sole possession of 11th all-time in program history in both goals (10) and points (26). Graduate student Morgan Fedosiewich (Ottawa, Ontario) finished with a career-high five saves, including two tremendous stops that kept it a one-goal game with under 10 minutes to play.
How It Happened
The Pirates came out with renewed energy to start the second half as they strung together a couple of quality chances in the first five minutes. One of those was a shot from Skyler Matusz (Kearny, N.J.) that went just wide of the upper 90 and Tavana put up a shot from just outside the box that was saved.
Seton Hall's high pressure defense was rewarded in the 57th minute as Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) intercepted a Yale pass in the Pirates' attacking third. She got the ball to Tavana who put up a shot outside the 18-yard box that struck off the crossbar and went over the goal line, cutting the Pirates' deficit to one, 2-1.
The Pirates' momentum was stymied slightly as Yale possessed and seemed to have an answer every time Seton Hall attempted to build up offensively. A kick save by made by Fedosiewich with under eight minutes to play kept it a one-score game before making another athletic save with five minutes to play, this time diving to her right. It wouldn't be enough though as the Pirates dropped its second match of the season.
Inside the Box Score
- After committing 10 fouls in the first half, the Pirates played a cleaner game in the second half defensively as both sides were called for six fouls.
- Yale outshot the Pirates, 14-6, and finished with a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Tavana finished with a team-high three shots and two shots on goal.
