
Strong Team Effort Leads Pirates Past Monmouth

New Providence, N.J. - Whether it was singles or doubles, each of the seven Pirates who competed Saturday night picked up a victory as the Seton Hall women's tennis team topped Monmouth, x-x, at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness. The Pirates improved to 2-2 on the young dual match season.
Oliwia Kempinski continued her dominance at No. 3 singles, improving to 4-0 in the spring and 11-4 overall. She defeated Lauren Landstrom in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Arina Gumerova returned to the winning column at No. 1 with a convincing and strong 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ann Spurka and is now 11-5 overall.
Arabella Moen and Hiba El Khalifi, who both saw their matches on Friday go unfinished, both won in straight sets. And they both remain undefeated this spring at 3-0.
Although Seton Hall had already clinched a team victory, one of the highlights was Aina Plana Ventosa out-toughing Hana McKinney in a long match at No. 2, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(6).Â
The Pirates also dominated in doubles with Gumerova and Moen earning their first doubles win of the spring, 6-1 over Spurka and Landstrom.
Seton Hall returns to action on Friday, Feb. 10 at Rutgers and then will host Delaware on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness at 5:45 p.m.
