LAST YEAR AGAINST PROVIDENCE
Seton Hall owns a 43-30 all-time lead against Providence and has won the last six games. Last season, the Pirates swept the home-and-home series.
Â
On Jan. 16, Park-Lane had a game-high 30 points as the Pirates routed Providence, 62-42. The Pirates forced 20 turnovers and held the Friars to just 25.9% shooting from the floor, including 0-for-11 from three-point range. Park-Lane was brilliant, going for 30 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in a stellar all-around game. Cooks tallied a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to go with five blocks.
Â
In the rematch in Walsh Gym, four Pirates scored in double-figures and they rallied to defeat Providence, 62-52, behind a strong fourth quarter. Park-Lane scored 13 of her 14 points in the game's final 7:49 and The Hall used a 10-1 run to turn a four-point fourth quarter deficit into a five point lead.
Â
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence is coming off a 11-19 season in 2021-22 featuring a 6-14 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars' season came to an end with a first-round loss to Georgetown in the 2022 BIG EAST Tournament.
Â
This year, the Friars were picked to finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the Preseason coaches' poll. Janai Crooms was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Providence returns three starters from a year ago, but lost a pair of forwards Alyssa Geary and All-BIG EAST Second Teamer Mary Baskerville.
Â
This season, Providence is off to a solid 10-6 start overall. They were 0-4 in BIG EAST play, but shocked No. 25 Creighton on Wednesday in Omaha, 79-75, to pick up their first conference win of the year. The Friars have played one of the toughest BIG EAST schedules so far with their four losses coming to Villanova and on the road at Connecticut, St. John's and DePaul. Although they don't score a lot (64.6 ppg), they don't allow much either. Their 60.5 points allowed per game is fifth-fewest in the BIG EAST.
UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when it travels to BIG EAST rival Creighton. Tip time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET.  The contest will be televised nationally on FS1. Brian Henderson and John Makuch will describe the action for WSOU FM.
