
Doubles Teams Shine as The Hall Gets Edged by Georgetown

New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team captured the doubles point in its BIG EAST match against Georgetown, but the Pirates were narrowly edged by the Hoyas in a 6-1 defeat Saturday afternoon at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.
The team score does not reflect how close the match was as three singles matches went three sets.
The dominating No. 1 doubles team of junior Arina Gumerova and freshman Arabella Moen improved to 8-1 as a team on the spring campaign with a 7-5 win over Chloe Bendetti and Mchaley Ho. Then senior Chloe Hamlin and junior Aina Plana Ventosa clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Morgan Coburn and Avantika Willy.Â
The Pirates lost at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles in straight sets, but the other three singles matches were tight. At No. 3, Plana Ventosa lost the first set to Ho in a tiebreak, but came back to win the second set, 6-3. In the deciding third set, Ho pulled away with a 6-4 victory.
At No. 5, junior Hiba El Khalifi took the first set over Carmen Aizpurua, 6-2, but ended up dropping sets two and three, 6-4 and 6-2. At No. 6, sophomore Oliwia Kempinski suffered the same fate; she won the first set over Coburn only to then fall in sets two and three, 6-2, 6-3.Â
In total, the Pirates were just nine points away from victory.
Seton Hall will hit the road Sunday for another BIG EAST match, this time at Villanova at the Bryn Mawr Racquet Club at 6:15 p.m.Â
