Bryn Mawr, Pa. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team saw all six of its players experience victory in its BIG EAST match against Villanova, but in the final team score the Pirates came up just short in a 4-3 loss Sunday evening at the Bryn Mawr Racquet Club.
The Pirates got off to a great start by earning the doubles point. Junior Arina Gumerova and freshman Arabella Moen continued their excellent run together at No. 1 doubles, defeating Annalise Klopfer and Emma Brogan, 6-4. They are now 9-1 as a team this spring season. Then at No. 2 doubles, senior Chloe Hamlin and junior Aina Plana Ventosa made it two wins in as many days as they topped Sabina Grigorian and Valieriia Kornieva, 6-3.Â
The other two Pirates to taste victory were junior Hiba El Khalifi and sophomore Emily O'Donovan. El Khalifi captured No. 5 singles over Bella Steffen, 6-3, 6-3, and O'Donovan picked up the win at No. 6 singles over Amanda Rivera-Gonzalez, 7-6(8), 7-6(5).
The Hall was just one set away from a team victory. Moen won her first set over Kornieva at No. 4 singles, but dropped the next two sets.
The Pirates will return to the courts on Saturday, April 2 for the shortest road trip of the season when they face NJIT in Newark.
