Pirates Pick Up First Win of Season, Defeat Sacred Heart 5-2

West Point, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring 2022 season with a convincing 5-2 victory over Sacred Heart Sunday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Army West Point's campus.
The Pirates won four of six singles matches, headlined by junior Arina Gumerova, who cruised past Sacred Heart's Katsiaryna Starastsenka at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Arabella Moen was successful at No. 3 singles, defeating Aina Garriga in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Emily O'Donovan was also a straight sets winner at No. 6 sinlges with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kim Fenton. At No. 5 singles, sophomore Oliwia Kempinski had to battle past a first set loss to Flavia Rambaldi, but she persevered and won a second-set tiebreaker and then won the match tiebreaker to take it, 6-7, 7-6, 10-4.
The Hall was strong in doubles, getting the day off on the right foot by earning the point with two of three wins. Gumerova and Moen combined to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, over Starastsenka and Ciara O'Toole. And junior Aina Plana Ventosa teamed with freshman Hili Kronzon to beat Rambaldi and Vitalina Golod at No. 2 doubles, 7-6 (7-4).
Seton Hall will make its home season debut on Saturday, Feb. 5 against Fairfield at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J. The match will commence at 5:30 p.m.
