Bronx, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team only had four student-athletes able to compete Saturday, and the Pirates valiantly won two singles matches, but the team ultimately lost for Fordham, 4-2, Saturday at Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
Injuries zapped the Pirates of a chance to win a second straight match after dispatching Wagner at home this past Thursday.
Sophomore Hiba El Khalifi played at No. 2 singles and won her third singles match in a row, taking down Fordham's Gen Quenville in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. It would have been four matches in a row, but her match on Thursday was stopped due to the clinch rule one game away from victory.
Freshman Oliwia Kempinski won her third match of the season, today at No. 3 singles, with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nicole Li.
The Pirates nearly came away with the doubles point; sophomore Arina Gumerova and senior Minja Gligic looked strong at No. 1 with a 6-2 win, but El Khalifi and Kempinski fell just short at No. 2, 7-5.
Seton Hall will return to action on Friday, April 2 when it heads to Connecticut for a BIG EAST match with the Huskies.
