Â
LAST GAME
Five players reached double-figures in scoring and the Pirates began the game with a 19-2 run to defeat Creighton, 82-70, on Kids Day at a sold-out Walsh Gymnasium on Friday. The Pirates shot a blistering 61.1% from the floor in the first quarter, which included 7-for-10 shooting from three-point range, in a game they never trailed.
Â
Senior Alexis Lewis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) played all 40 minutes for the Pirates, leading the team with 18 points on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting from the field. She also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded three steals.
Â
Freshman Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had the best game of her young career, tallying a career-high 15 points to go with four assists and just one turnover at the point guard position. Senior Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.), Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) and Barbara Johnson (Toronto, Ontario) all also reached double-figures in scoring.
Â
Seton Hall led the game wire-to-wire charging out of the gates on fire from long-distance. The Pirates connected on their first six three-pointers and a trifecta by Samuels gave them a commanding 22-4 lead to begin the game. In the second quarter, the Pirate lead grew to as many as 24, before The Hall took a 48-27 lead into halftime.

Last Meeting: Providence 82, HALL 75 – Feb. 8, 2019
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST PROVIDENCE
The Pirates fell victim to a huge second half rally at Providence and fell by a score of 82-75 on Feb. 8 last year at Alumni Hall. Desiree Elmore led the Pirates with a career-high 22 points in the setback.
Â
Elmore was one of four Pirates in double-figures, joined by Shadeen Samuels with 17 points and Nicole Jimenez and Inja Butina with 15 and 10, respectively. The Friars got a huge game from senior Maddie Jolin, who finished with 25 points and was 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
Â
The Hall held a 40-31 halftime lead and stretched its lead to as many as 13 mid-way through the third period. The Friars battled back with an 8-0 run to close the third and pull within three heading to the fourth. PC then jumped ahead with a fast start to the final frame, scoring the first five points of the period. The Pirates briefly re-took the lead in the fourth quarter with a Kaity Healy 3-pointer, but it was short-lived and the Friars stayed ahead for the final 7:54 of regulation.
Â
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence is coming off a 19-16 season from a year ago, which featured an 8-10 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars defeated Xavier in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tournament, but fell in the quarters to eventual champion, DePaul. Providence qualified for the WNIT and won two games before ending their season with a loss to fellow BIG EAST member Georgetown.
Â
This year, Providence got off to a hot start with wins in eight of its first nine games, but has dropped eight of nine games since. The Friars enter its contest with Seton Hall with a 9-9 overall record and an 0-6 mark in BIG EAST play.
Â
Providence is led by Mary Baskerville, who is averaging nearly a double-double at 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Â
