
Pirates Sweep Monmouth and Montclair State in Dual Meet Action

South Orange, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team took both relay races and won nine individual events en route to a sweep of Monmouth and Montclair State in dual meet action Friday evening at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The Pirates topped the Hawks, 174.5-107.5, and defeated the Red Hawks, 230-53.
Sophomore Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) was the headliner for the Pirates on the night, winning the 1000 freestyle by nearly 21 seconds (9:45.44) and then coming back to win the 100 freestyle (47.21) and swimming anchor for the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:26.44). His 1000 time surpassed his best mark last year (9:55.57).
Junior Liam Cosgove (Sea Girt, N.J.) and freshman Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) were part of both relay winners, swimming the 400 medley relay alongside freshman Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.) and senior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.) and then swimming the 200 freestyle relay with LaClair and senior Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.). Cosgrove also took home first in the 200 freestyle.
Other winners included sophomore Kyle Haflich (Fishers, Ind.) taking the 200 butterfly in 1:58.20, Pantano claiming the 200 backstroke in 1:53.46, sophomore Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.) winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.67, senior Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) earning the victory in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.31 and senior Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
Seton Hall will host another home meet next Saturday, Oct. 26 when the Pirates welcome Drexel to Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. Meet time is 1 p.m.
