MONMOUTH, N.J. – Aided by the immense roster depth, the Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team beat the Monmouth Hawks, 112-93, inside Steadman Natatorium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pirates took an early lead in their first road meet of the season in the 200 medley relay. Off the start, Chris Jackson gained almost a one-second advantage during the backstroke leg, giving the Pirates all the cushion they needed in the race. Robert Adam, Jake Karulf and Balint Marosi closed out the relay to secure a time of 1:34.69.
As the meet shifted to individual events, Nimrod Koncz secured the Pirates' first individual win of the day in a battle with teammate Jake Karulf in the 100 butterfly. After a dominant first 50 yards, Koncz cruised to a near one-second win with a time of 51.40.
After Koncz's win, Toma Adam continued The Hall's momentum in the 100 freestyle. The Romanian Rocket continued to showcase his signature speed, winning the event by a half-second with a time of 46.67. Adam also added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.78.
As the two sides traded events, the Pirates' final individual win came from Balint Marosi. Marosi continued his dominant run in the 100 backstroke, securing a dominant win with a time of 51.90. The junior nearly collected a second win in the 200 IM, but was narrowly outtouched at the wall, finishing one hundredth of a second behind the opposition with a time of 1:55.74.
With the meet still in the balance heading into the final relay, all the Seton Hall needed to secure the meet was a first-place finish. Toma Adam rocketed off the blocks in the opening leg, securing a half-second lead for The Hall. Alongside Adam's blistering 21.42 split, Koncz, Austin Hargreaves and Evan Wilson all swam 21.47 or better on their splits, winning the event for the Pirates and securing the meet for The Hall.
What's Next
The Pirates will return to the pool next on Saturday, October 24, when they travel out to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to take part in the Bucknell Fall Invite. The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
