
Samuels, Pirates Run Past St. Francis Brooklyn

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – In a match-up of two of the nation's top offenses, the Seton Hall women's basketball team (5-1) ran past St. Francis Brooklyn (4-2) by a score of 100-77 on Sunday afternoon inside historic Walsh Gym. Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.) had a career day for the Pirates with 29 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Samuels led four Pirates in double-figures as The Hall hit the 100-point mark for the second time this season and the fifth time in program history. The offensive performance was one of the record books, with the Pirates connecting on the second-most field goals (41) and 3-pointers (14) in a game in school history and also finishing one assist shy (29) of the all-time record.
Nicole Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) poured in 18 points by way of six 3-pointers and added five rebounds and five assists, while Desiree Elmore (14 points) and Kaela Hilaire (12 points) joined her in double-digits. Hilaire (Queens, N.Y.) led the tremendous ball-sharing effort by tying a career-high with nine assists against only one turnover.

The Hall exploded out of the gate, scoring the first nine points of the contest to force an early SFBK timeout and eventually taking a 28-12 lead after a quarter. The Terriers' high-paced offense, which entered the game averaging nearly 94 points per game, found its groove in the second and third quarters and managed to get SFBK back within 10 heading into the final period.
With the Pirates up 69-59 at the start of the fourth, Jimenez hit two 3-pointers and Samuels added another in less than 90 seconds to quickly balloon the lead to 17 and force another Terrier timeout. Overall it would be a 13-2 run in the first 2:30 of the final quarter to push the lead past 20 where it remained the rest of the way.

- Through six games, the junior is averaging 6.0 assists per game and holds a 3.6 assist:turnover ratio
- Samuels' double-double was her third-straight and the fifth of her career
- The 100 points scored by the Pirates mark the fifth time in program history they have hit the century mark – it is also the first time it has happened twice in the same season
