Samuels Has Career Day In Setback To Creighton
1/2/2018 9:48:00 PM | Women's Basketball
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Despite a career-high 19 points from Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.), the Seton Hall women's basketball team (8-6, 0-3 BIG EAST) dropped its BIG EAST home opener to Creighton by a score of 68-51. The contest was the second installment of the "FOX All-Access" broadcast which saw head coach Anthony Bozzella and CU's Jim Flanery "mic'd up" for the duration.
The Pirates were plagued by a cold shooting day, finishing 35.6 percent from the floor and 2-of-10 from 3-point range in the setback. The Hall jumped out to quick lead and was up by a point after a quarter, but a 15-9 edge for the Bluejays in the second frame helped them take a five-point halftime lead.
Turning Points
The Pirates got within one twice in the third quarter, before a 7-0 run for CU pushed the lead out to 36-28 at the 4:13 mark of the stanza. The Pirates got the deficit back to six after scoring the first five points of the fourth, but again CU was able to answer. With The Hall forced to press late, the Bluejays closed regulation on a 12-4 run as the contest fell out of reach to inflate the final margin.
Inside the Numbers
The Pirates are back in action on Friday night when they host Providence at Walsh Gym. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on FS2 and the FOX Sports GO app.
