Seton Hall Dealt 3-1 Setback at UMass Lowell
9/14/2017 8:54:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Lowell, Mass. – After surrendering a second-minute goal, the Seton Hall women's soccer team battled for the remainder of the match, and got an equalizer from junior Julia Stirpe (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) in the 79th minute, but ultimately suffered a 3-1 setback at UMass Lowell on Thursday night.
The Pirates (0-5-2) had a 7-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but trailed at the break, 1-0. Dao's goal evened the score late, but the Riverhawks (3-1-3) responded with two goals in the final 10 minutes to secure the win.
Turning Point
Following a corner kick, junior Lauren Dao (Collegeville, Pa.) lofted the ball into the box where Stirpe fired a nifty header into the back of the net off a bounce and into the lower right side to tie the match at 1-1. The Pirates had trailed since the second minute of the contest and had momentum on their side.
However, a funny bounce off the foot of UMass Lowell's Andrea Morrow found its way into the back of the net just two minutes later, allowing the Riverhawks to retake the lead at 2-1. The goal flipped momentum to the home team, which later added a goal in the 88th minute.
