South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's tennis team welcomes St. John's to the Tennis Courts at Ivy Hill Park on Sunday for a 12 p.m. BIG EAST match in the final home contest of the season.
The Pirates (7-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) wrapped up their non-conference slate last Sunday with a 7-0 victory over Fairfield at Ivy Hill Park. Junior Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) and sophomore Anicka Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) were each recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after pairing for a win at No. 1 doubles and registering victories at the first and second singles flights.
St. John's (13-3, 4-0 BIG EAST) defeated UMass, 4-3, at home on March 31 after sophomore Inclan Solis clinched the match with a victory at No. 5 singles. The Red Storm are led by freshman Jessica Livianu, who went 17-1 in singles play during the fall, and became the first player in program history to compete at ITA Nationals.
Four different Pirates have reached double-digit wins in singles play including a team-best 14 from junior Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) and a 13-3 record from Fajnorova. The top doubles flight for The Hall, Strike and Fajnorova, has had success all season and has compiled an 8-4 record entering Sunday.
Following Sunday's match, Seton Hall heads to DePaul and Marquette on April 22-23 to wrap up the regular season before heading to the BIG EAST Championships in Columbia, S.C. April 27-30.
