
Pirates Drop BIG EAST Opener At DePaul

CHICAGO – The Seton Hall women's basketball team (8-4, 0-1 BIG EAST) ran into a hot-shooting DePaul (9-4, 1-0) squad and fell by a score of 89-66 in the BIG EAST opener on Thursday night at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The Blue Demons knocked down 19 shots from 3-point range in the contest, more than double the highest total previously allowed by The Hall.
Donnaizha Fountain (Roxbury, Mass.) led all scorers with 23 points for the Pirates, and Deja Winters (Cleveland, Ohio) tied her career-high with 16 off the bench. For DePaul, Ashton Millender led six players in double-figures with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from deep.
Turning Points
The Blue Demons came out firing in the first half, connecting on 11 shots from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes. That prowess from distance allowed DePaul to go up by as many as 24 in the second quarter and take a 48-29 lead to the half.
The Hall managed to out-score DePaul in the third quarter, 19-18, but could not get the deficit any closer than 15 in the second half.

The Hall is right back in action on Saturday, heading to Milwaukee to take on league favorite Marquette. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) on the BIG EAST Digital Network and FOX Sports GO.

- The 19 3-pointers made by DePaul were 11 more than any SHU opponent this season – the Pirates had allowed more than five triples in a game only twice through 11 games
- Inja Butina (Zagreb, Croatia) finished with a team-high five assists and has recorded at least five helpers in a game on four occasions this season
- Winters went 5-for-8 from 3-point range, setting a new career-high for triples made in a game and tying her career-high with 16 points
