Pirates Edged by Providence, 2-1
10/22/2017 4:07:00 PM | Women's Soccer
South Orange, N.J. – Sophomore Marissa Aniolowski (Enfield, Conn.) tied the match in the 61st minute on Saturday afternoon, but the Seton Hall women's soccer team could not keep pace with visiting Providence, and ultimately dropped a 2-1 BIG EAST Conference fixture on an unseasonably warm day at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Aniolowski's strike was her first of the season, and it came off a well-placed free kick from junior Emily Rimdzius (Cherry Hill, N.J.). On the entry, the ball deflected off several different Pirates (0-11-5, 0-5-3 BIG EAST) before eventually finding its way to Aniolowski, who buried it in the bottom right corner.
The Friars (10-6-1, 5-2-1 BIG EAST), however, responded later in the second half with an excellent individual effort from Amber Birchwell, who made her way into the middle of the box and put it home for the eventual game-winner.
Turning Point
An evenly played match throughout, neither team had sustained offensive pressure until after Seton Hall scored the equalizer.
Providence responded by out-shooting The Hall 5-1 after the 61st minute when the match was tied, and eventually found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
