LORTON, VA. - With 18 holes left to play, the Seton Hall men's golf team is currently third at the 2014 Patriot Intercollegiate, hosted by George Mason University.
JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) and Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) paced the Pirates in round one, each firing a 1-under-par, 70. Round two was led by Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.), who turned in his fourth sub-par round of the season with a 2-under-par, 69.
Through two rounds, Snouffer and Harper are tied for 14th place among 103 individual golfers. Snouffer is 2-over-par with a 75-69-144, while Harper is 2-over-par with a 70-74-144. Just two strokes behind, O'Brien and Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) are tied for 23rd place. O'Brien is 4-over-par with a 70-76-146, while Go is 4-over-par with a 75-71-146.
David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) is currently 14-over-par with a 79-77-156.
Junior Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) is competing as an individual and is having a stellar tournament. He is tied for 32nd place with a 6-over-par, 74-74-148.
Collectively, Seton Hall is 12-over-par with a consistent 290-290-580, and trails Missouri by 10 strokes with 18 holes left to play. Marshall is currently second, seven strokes ahead of the Pirates.
The third annual Patriot Intercollegiate is being played at the par-71, 6,903-yard Laurel Hills Golf Club. Designer Bill Love, whose credits include the Iron Forge Course at Penn National and Hunting Hawk in Glenn Allen, Virginia, has created an impressive 18-hole course on land that formerly housed the D.C. Department of Corrections facility at Lorton. Paying homage to the early architects of American golf, Love's objective was to let the natural beauty of the property dictate the character of the course. By all accounts he has succeeded with the golf press already describing the course with accolades like "one-of-a-kind" and "visually stunning."
In addition to Seton Hall and George Mason, the 15-team field also includes Binghamton, Delaware, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, George Washington, IUP, James Madison, La Salle, Longwood, Marshall, Missouri, Saint Joseph's, St. Thomas Aquinas, Villanova and Wagner.
This weekend, the teams will play two rounds on Sunday and a final 18 holes on Monday. Complete results of each day's events will be available at SHUpirates.com.
