SOUTH KENT, CONN. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to action this week at the Hartford Hawks Invitational, September 22-23.
The two-day, three-round event will take place at the par-72 Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn. Including Seton Hall and host Hartford, 17 teams will vie for the title including Bethune Cookman, Boston College, Brown, Bryant, Central Florida, Connecticut, Fairfield, Holy Cross, LIU-Brooklyn, UMass-Lowell, Rhode Island, Rider, Sacred Heart, Saint Joseph's and Temple. Teams will play two rounds on Monday and a final round on Tuesday.
Nestled in northwestern Connecticut's scenic Litchfield County, Bull's Bridge Golf Club offers a truly unique golf experience. The Berkshire foothills provide an impressive panorama with spectacular views prominent throughout the property. The 18 hole, championship golf course was opened in 2004, and it has quickly commanded the attention of the golf community. Designed by Tom Fazio, one of America's greatest living golf architects, the par-72 layout exemplifies his trademark design versatility. With four sets of tees, two hybrid course layouts and yardages ranging from 5,300 to 7,000 yards, the course simultaneously appeals to and challenges players of all skill levels. While Travel + Leisure Golf rated it one of America's Best New Private Courses in 2004, the course already exhibits a maturity and presentation level well beyond its years.
This is the third straight year that the Pirates have participated in the Hartford Hawks Invitational. Last year, the Pirates finished at 51-over-par with a consistent 304-306-305-915. They finished 47 strokes behind the team champion, Rutgers. Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) was just as consistent as the team, finishing tied for 14th among 96 golfers at 7-over-par with a 75-74-74-223. He finished 16 strokes behind Hartford's Evan Russell, who won the individual crown at a staggering 9-under-par.
Seton Hall will bring Go, Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.), Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.), David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) and JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) to Hartford this year. Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) will also make the trip and compete as an individual.
The Pirates are coming off their first team title since 2012, a victory at the Navy Fall Classic. Collectively, Seton Hall fired a 1-over-par, 285, in round two, to edge Delaware by one stroke for the team championship. The Pirates finished the event at 1-over-par with a 284-285-569. Kevin O'Brien shot a 5-under-par, 66, in round two to lead the Pirates. His 66 ties him for the third-lowest par-71 single-round score in Seton Hall history. O'Brien finished tied for third among 56 individual golfers with a 4-under-par, 72-66-138. His 4-under-par ties him for the seventh-most strokes under par for a tournament in Seton Hall history and his 138 matches the best par-71 tournament score ever for a Pirate.
