VERONA, N.Y. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will open the 2014 fall season at the Sixth Annual Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, Aug. 31 to Sept. 1.
The tournament will consist of three rounds, played over two days with the first two rounds commencing on Sunday, Aug. 31. A field of 12 teams will take on the par-72, 7,105-yard Kaluhayat Course at Turning Stone. In addition to Seton Hall, competing teams include Central Connecticut State, Cleveland State, Detroit, LeMoyne, McDaniel College, Robert Wesleyan, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter's, Stevenson, Villanova and host Missouri.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., the Kaluhayat Course was ranked one of the Top 100 Best Resort Courses by Golfweek in 2010. One of the toughest courses in New York, Kaluhyat is marked by dramatic changes in elevation, measuring as high as 50 feet in some areas, with plateau settings offering seemingly endless, spectacular views of the surrounding terrain. Six lakes throughout the course add to the picturesque setting. Kaluhyat is a classic shot-maker's course, where accuracy and strategy are rewarded as much as length.
This will be the fourth time that Seton Hall has participated in this event. Last year, the Pirates placed 11th with a 54-over-par, 306-303-309-918. Host Missouri won the team title for the third time in five years.
Seton Hall's top performance at Turning Stone was a third place team finish in 2009. The Pirates' top individual performance came from Troy Spencer in 2011. The southpaw fired a 5-under-par, 211, to tie for third place among all individual golfers. His performance tied him for third on Seton Hall's all-time list for lowest score against par for a tournament.
The Pirates will bring six golfers to Turning Stone this weekend. Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) has garnered the Pirates' top spot in the lineup this weekend. Newcomer Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) has earned the second spot. Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) will golf third. Sophomore Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) is in the number four spot, while Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) is fifth.
David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) will compete as an individual.
