SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Head Coach Clay White announced the 2015 Seton Hall men's golf fall schedule on Friday. The Pirates will participate in six events this spring.
"We've assembled a good schedule with a nice combination of local and long-distance events," White said. "It's a schedule with a number of strong fields, appropriate for a team like ours which saw success in the fall. I'm looking forward to getting started."
Seton Hall will open the spring season on February 9 at the MAC Match Play event at Lake Jovita Country Club in Tampa, Fla. The event, held over two days, will feature most of the Mid-American Conference schools in a match play format.
Two weeks later, Seton Hall will participate in a new tournament for the program, the Snowman Getaway at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. The three-round event is hosted by Loyola University - Maryland.
A month later, the Pirates will return to tournament action with a familiar event, the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Md., March 38-29. This will be the third straight year that The Hall has participated in this tournament. Last spring, Seton Hall tied for fourth among 22 teams with a 36-over-par, 313-299-612. Sophomore Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) tied for sixth among 115 individual golfers to lead the Pirates with a 6-over-par, 150. In 2013, Seton Hall placed eighth among 24 teams at 74-over-par.
The following week, Seton Hall will head back to the American Northwest for the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash., April 6-7. Seton Hall played in this highly-competitive tournament dominated by Pac-12 teams last year for the first time and placed 16th. Go and Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) tied for 42nd place overall at 10-over-par.
A week later, Seton Hall will return to New Jersey for an old staple, the Princeton Invitational, April 11-12, at Springdale Golf Club. Last year, The Hall placed fifth among 15 teams with a 15-over-par, 288-295-284-867. Go tied for sixth among 78 individual golfers with a 3-under-par, 72-70-68-210. His 210 is tied for the second-lowest three-round, par-71 score in Seton Hall history. JT Harper (Pebble Beach, Calif.) was just 3-over-par for the tournament to tie for 19th place overall.
Finally, Seton Hall will wrap up competition for the 2014-15 academic year with the BIG EAST Championship, April 26-28, at Callawassie Island in Okatie, S.C. The Pirates placed sixth in the nine-team conference field last spring, but finished only three strokes out of fourth place. The Hall shot a 47-over-par, 305-303-303-911. St. John's claimed the team title at 18-over-par. Again, it was Go who led the Pirates, tying for seventh overall at 7-over-par. Seton Hall will be seeking its first conference title since 2000 and third overall.
