The field battled 17 mph sustained winds with gusts of up to 30 mph throughout the day, which led to higher scores than usual.
Pantelas is currently in second place among a field of 68 golfers, just one shot off the individual lead. LIU-Brooklyn's Marisol Doglioli is the leader.
Collectively, the Pirates are chasing their second team title of the fall and are also only one shot off the lead. Seton Hall shot a 27-over-par, 311, in round one, and only trail LIU-Brooklyn. The Pirates' lone BIG EAST competition in the field is host St. John's, which is currently in 11th place 43 strokes behind The Hall.
"The conditions were really harsh out there today," said head coach Sara Doell. "The entire team battled though a tough day. I'm particularly pleased with Cassie, who didn't play like a freshman today. I'm looking forward to see what tomorrow brings."
Reinserted into the starting lineup this week, Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) is paying dividends for Doell's squad. The junior is currently tied for fourth overall following a 6-over-par, 77.
One stroke behind Tenhundfeld is senior Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.), who fired a 7-over-par, 78. She is the third Pirate currently in the top-10, tied for eighth place.
Senior Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) is currently tied for 24th place following an 11-over-par, 82. Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) is one stroke behind McClure in 27th place after a 12-over-par, 83.
Two Pirates, McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) and Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) are competing as individuals. Cutter is currently tied for 16th place following a 9-over-par, 80, while Fouse is tied for 29th after a 14-over-par, 85.
The third annual St. John's Invitational is being played at the par-71, 5,801-yard Saint Andrew's Golf Club. America's oldest golf club (1888) and founding member of the USGA, Saint Andrew's is one of golf's venerated historical venues. Only 20 miles from New York City, the Membership and their guests enjoy the game in a spectacular setting and play one of the area's best-conditioned and exciting layouts -- a challenging par-71 golf course, redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1983.
In addition to Seton Hall and St. John's, the 12-team field also includes Fairleigh Dickinson, Hartford, Hofstra, LIU-Brooklyn, Monmouth, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Siena, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Towson.
The field will play one round on Monday and a final 18 holes on Tuesday. Complete results of each day's events will be available at SHUpirates.com.
