Pantelas becomes the fourth player in program history to win an individual title and did so in convincing fashion. She entered the day trailing by one stroke, but went on to win the event by seven strokes over St. John's Anna Kim. Pantelas shot a 1-over-par, 74-69-143, to win her first career title in only her fourth collegiate tournament.
Collectively, it wasn't close. Seton Hall entered the final round trailing LIU-Brooklyn by one stroke, but was eight strokes better on Tuesday, while LIU was far worse. The Pirates finished with a 46-over-par, 311-303-614 to win the event by 15 strokes over second place Rutgers. The team victory gives Seton Hall two tournament wins in the same season for the first time ever.
The team win is especially sweet for head coach Sara Doell, who won the New York AM on the same course when she was a student-athlete at Penn State.
"I couldn't be more proud of our team," Doell said. "We have proven the ability to come from behind and win. It shows just how much we've grown and matured as a team. Two wins in one season is an incredible accomplishment."
Only one other BIG EAST team participated in this tournament, event host St. John's. The Red Storm finished ninth, 69 strokes behind the Pirates.
"Cassie and Megan were really steady all tournament," Doell said. "For them to finish as well as they did, despite some really windy conditions on Monday, speaks to their mental focus. Cassie couldn't be more deserving of her first win."
Junior Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) notched her first top-5 finish of the season, tying for third place among 68 golfers with a 9-over-par, 77-74-151. She finished just one stroke from second place.
Senior Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.), the 2012 winner of the St. John's Invitational, tied for 14th overall with a 17-over-par, 78-81-159.
Junior Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) was four shots better in Tuesday's second round to finish in 20th place with a 20-over-par, 83-79-162.
Senior Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) tied for 21st place with a 23-over-par, 82-83-165.
McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) and Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) made the trip across the river and competed as individuals. Cutter notched a top-10, tying for ninth place with an impressive 15-over-par, 80-77-157. Fouse finished with a 30-over-par, 85-87-172.
Seton Hall will complete the fall season with three rounds of the Princeton Invitational, Oct. 18-19, at Springdale Country Club.
