Pair Named Cleveland Golf Scholars

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - John Dawson Neufeld (Calgary, Canada) and Brandon Park (Weston, Fla.) of the Seton Hall men's golf team were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for 2012.
A total of 146 players in Division I, 52 in Division II and 41 in NAIA earned the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumula­tive grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Earlier this year, Neufeld was named Seton Hall's Senior Scholar-Athlete and was appointed to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 2 Men's At-Large First Team. A Political Science major, Neufeld has maintained an impressive 3.92 grade point average since transferring to Seton Hall prior to the 2010-11 academic year.
On the course, Neufeld saved his finest season for last. His 73.57 stroke average led the Pirates during the spring season and his 2-under-par, 73-70-71-214, at the Rio Pinar Invitational was the lowest score against par of any Pirate for a spring tournament. Neufeld had three top-10 finishes this year, including an even-par fifth place showing at the Fireline Towson Invitational. During that event, he shot a 5-under-par, 67, in the second round, the lowest single round for any Pirate during the 2011-12 year.
Park, a rising senior, completed his third straight strong year as a Seton Hall Pirate and was named to PING's All-Region Team for the third time. The two-time All-BIG EAST performer notched three top-5 finishes last year, including his first career tournament victory. Park tied for first at the Barnabas health Intercollegiate with a 69-75-144, but lost the tie-breaker. He returned the following weekend however, to win the Lehigh Invitational with the same score, an even-par, 75-69-144. Park also tied for third at the competitive Manor Intercollegiate with a 1-over-par, 70-72-75-217. His 74.00 stroke average for the 2011-12 academic year ranked second only to Spencer.
