
Goodnight Paces Pirates in Day 1 at Princeton Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – Freshman Blake Goodnight (Dallas, Texas) is only 3-over-par after 36 holes and has fueled the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fourth place standing at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday.

After a 6-over-par, 77, in round one, Goodnight matched his career-best round with a 3-under-par, 68, in round two. After being even-par through 10 holes, he was 3-under-par over the final eight, including four birdies, in a memorable second round. Currently, he's tied for 13th place among 75 individual golfers with a 3-over-par, 77-68-145.

Princeton's Reed Greyserman has a five-stroke lead on the field at 6-under-par entering Sunday's final round.

As a team, Seton Hall had a dramatic improvement in today's second round. After a disappointing 20-over-par, 304, in round one, the Pirates shaved off 20 strokes for an even-par, 284, in round two. Currently, The Hall is tied for fourth place with Temple with a 20-over-par, 304-284-588.

A trio of schools, Georgetown, Harvard and Princeton share the team lead at 4-over-par.

David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) shot a 5-over-par, 76, in round one, but improved six strokes in round two. The senior had three birdies and 13 pars in route to a 1-under-par, 70, in the afternoon. For the tournament, Lally is tied for 16th place with a 4-over-par, 76-70-146.

Lally's round two is his 23rd career sub-par round, which ranks seventh-most in Seton Hall history.

Sophomore Will Hennessee (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Jace Hulett (Boerne, Texas) are currently tied for 35th place overall at 7-over-par with a 149. After a 6-over-par, 77, in round one, he shaved off five stokes thanks to three birdies for a 1-over-par, 72, in the afternoon. Hulett had four birdies in route to a 3-over-par, 74, in round one. In round two, he had four more, but was one stroke worse with a 4-over-par, 75.Â

Graduate student George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) had a 7-over-par, 78, in round one, but was four strokes better in the afternoon with a 3-over-par, 74. He's currently 10-over-par with a 78-74-152.

Competing as an individual, junior Eli Shah (Newtown Square, Pa.) also had a big time improvement in round two. After a 7-over-par, 78, in the morning, he had four birdies in route to a 1-over-par, 72, in the afternoon. Currently, Shah is tied for 41st place with an 8-over-par, 78-72-150.

THE COURSE
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â

In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field features teams from Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Rider, Saint Joseph's, Temple and Yale. BIG EAST opponent Georgetown is also in the field.

The teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

THE SCHEDULE
The field will play 36 continuous holes on Saturday and one final round on Sunday. Play begins with a tee times starting at 7:45 am on Saturday.  Sunday's final round will start with a shotgun at 10:00 a.m.Â
