Pirates Dominate in Sweep Over Hofstra

New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team won 15 of 16 sets in a dominating 7-0 win over Hofstra Saturday at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.

All six Pirates won both their doubles and singles matches.

"I'm really pleased with this win," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "I challenged the girls to play out of their comfort zone and play safe from behind baseline. I thought we did that nicely even if we lost a few points attempting it. Stage [Anastasia Sereda] overall had a very strong weekend, which I was really happy to see."

The Pirates took care of business in doubles with pairings that haven't played much with each other this season. In just their third time working together in a match, Kira Farrakhova and Anastasia Sereda won at No. 1 in a 7-5 win over Aida Oviedo and Aryanah Kahnamoui. At No. 2, Rachel Benoualid and Isabelle May dispatched Katarina Drinchich and Ava Veneziano, 6-1. And at No. 3, Ellie Coe and Jaden Davidson, in just their second match together, soundly defeated Bohdana Bilokon and Megan Maragliano, 6-2.

The success carried over to singles with a clean sweep. Sereda was the first to win, defeating Bilokon, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 3 position to earn her fifth win of the spring. May followed with her fourth win of the spring, a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Ava Veneziano in the No. 5 spot.

Coe clinched the team win with her victory at No. 6, topping Isabella Cardinal, 6-3, 6-0, for her sixth spring win of the season.

Benoualid then notched her fifth spring win when she defeated Katarina Drinchich at the No. 4 position, 6-4, 6-3.

Farrakhova and Davidson picked up their team-leading 16th singles wins of the season. Farrakhova was a 6-3, 6-4 win over Aryanah Kahnamoui at No. 1, and Davidson was a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0(4) winner over Aida Oviedo at No. 2. Farrakhova also leads the team with her eighth spring win.

Seton Hall will battle New Haven on Thursday, April 2 at the campus courts in Ivy Hill Park.
