NEW YORK - Freshman Kira Farrakhova was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week after winning both her matches in the No. 1 position, the conference office announced Monday.
Farrakhova is the first Pirate to receive a conference weekly honor in the singles category since Arina Gumerova was Singles Player of the Week on Feb. 23, 2022.
The Boca Raton, Fla., native was stellar over the weekend. On Friday, she defeated Delaware's Maryia Hrynashka in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(0). Hrynashka was the 18th ranked singles player in the Northeast Region last year for a Blue Hens squad that was ranked eighth in the region.
On Saturday, Farrakhova defeated Delaware State's Lucia Casas Blas, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(5), which jump-started Seton Hall's comeback win after losing the doubles point.
Farrakhova, who also won both her doubles matches on the weekend, is now 5-2 in spring singles, all in the No. 1 position, and she has won four in a row.
Farrakhova and the Pirates are in action again this weekend on the road at Brown Friday and at Providence Saturday.
