Seton Hall is now 3-4 in spring action and all three wins have come on the road.
"We came out and didn't do enough to take the doubles point tonight, but I give a lot of credit to our team though for channeling that frustration of losing doubles into a very strong singles start that led to a strong win," said head coach James Enzler. "I'm proud of the fight that I saw in them tonight. It was great to see Ellie and Rachel, who had to go on a bit later due to there being only four courts, seal the win for us after tough losses last night."
The teams split No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, and they were right there at No. 1 as it was tied 5-5, but Delaware State pulled away to earn the doubles point.
Farrakhova tied the match up for the Pirates with her third-set tiebreaking win over Lucia Casas Blas, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(5). The Hornets won at No. 2 to go up, 2-1, but the Pirates took a 3-2 lead after May and Anasasia Sereda were each straight-sets winners at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
Once courts became available, Rachel Benoualid and Ellie Coe began their singles matches, and Coe quickly clinched victory for the Pirates with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Hannah Watkins at No. 6.
Farrakhova continued her recent surge with her fourth straight singles victory. She is now 5-2 in spring matches and leads the team with 13 singles wins and 13 doubles wins overall.
Seton Hall will make a trip up to New England next weekend, facing Brown on Friday, Feb. 20, and BIG EAST rival Providence on Saturday, Feb. 21.
