LAST WEEKEND
Seton Hall went 1-1 last weekend when it made the trip to Cambridge, Mass. for a pair of contests at the Harvard Invitational. The Pirates won the opening set, but fell in four sets to Washington State on Saturday. On Sunday, The Hall held on for a thrilling five-set victory over host Harvard. The win improves the Pirates to 5-4 on the young season.
Â
Freshmen Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) and Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) were named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament Team. Safian had a team-best 3.23 kills per set last week, while Fuller averaged 3.77 assists per set and 1.46 digs per contest.
Â
SCOUTING MARYLAND
Seton Hall and Maryland will meet for only the fourth time in history on Friday. The Terrapins have won two of the three prior meetings, but The Hall was victorious in the most recent contest, a four-set victory on Aug. 31, 2012 at the Maryland Invitational.
Â
Maryland is coming off a 14-17 season in 2024, which featured a 5-15 mark in Big Ten play. The Terrapins dropped four of their final five matches last year, and won a set against No. 2 Nebraska in the season finale.Â
Â
Maryland returns Ally Williams and Eva Rohrbach to its roster in 2025 – both are expected to make a considerable impact on the court. Rohrbach led the team in blocks last season with 108 and finished fourth on the team in kills with 170.
Â
The Terrapins enter the weekend with a 5-3 record. Most recently, they outlasted Davidson in five sets on Saturday before falling in four sets on Sunday at Wake Forest. Maryland had won five straight matches before Sunday. Ajack Malual, a Tennessee transfer, currently leads the team with 3.69 kills per set. Williams is averaging a team-best 3.81 digs per set.
Â
SCOUTING COPPIN STATE
Seton Hall and Coppin State will lock horns for only the third time in history. The Pirates have won both prior meetings, including a four-set victory at the Towson Invitational last fall.
Â
Coppin State is coming off a 16-16 season last year, which included an impressive 11-3 mark in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play. The Eagles took down seventh-seeded Morgan State in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament, but fell to third-seeded Delaware State in straight sets to finish their year.
Â
In 2025, Coppin State was picked to finish third in the eight-team MEAC according to a preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors. Additionally, Coco Figueroa and TaKenya Stafford were selected to the Preseason All-MEAC Team.
Â
Coppin State is off to a 5-6 record so far this season. Most recently it won three of four matches in the Charm City Classic, hosted by the Eagles last weekend. They defeated Lafayette in four sets, Penn in five sets and Iona in three sets before being swept by Princeton to finish the weekend. Among their other losses this season was a four-set loss to Georgetown on Sept. 10.
