SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) had 23 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in straight sets at Maryland, 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 23-25), on Friday.
Â
Seton Hall has been ravaged by the injury bug already this year, and only had nine available players for its matches this weekend against Maryland and Coppin State. The Pirates played Maryland close in all three sets, on the road, despite only using eight players.
Â
Reich had a career-high 23 kills, the highest total of any Pirate so far this year, to go with four digs. Hanna Labanowska (Olsezewsca Stara, Poland) finished with a career-high eight kills and eight digs. Sophomore Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) finished just one dig shy of a double-double with a team-high 29 assists to go with nine digs.
Â
Junior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had a team-best 19 digs.
Â

Seton Hall got off to a hot start and a kill by Reich, gave it a 10-4 lead early in set one. Maryland rallied, however, and grabbed a 19-17 advantage. Another kill by Reich tied the score at 21, but the Terrapins scored four of the next five points to win the opening set, 25-21. Maryland had a .346 attack percentage in the opening set.
Â
SET 2:
A kill by Hanna Labanowska (Olszewnica Stara, Poland) gave The Hall a 10-6 lead in set two, but Maryland responded with five of the next six points to tie the score at 11. Another kill by Reich gave The Hall a 17-15 advantage, but the Terrapins responded with a 7-2 run to grab a 22-19 lead. Another kill by Reich cut The Hall's deficit to 23-22, but Maryland scored the final two points to win their second consecutive 25-22 victory.
Â
SET 3:
The third set was the closest of the match, featuring 13 ties and four lead changes. A kill by Reich gave The Hall a 23-21 lead, but Maryland quickly bounced back to score the final four points of the set to win, 25-23, and complete the sweep.Â
