NASHVILLE – Junior Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.) had a team-high 10 kills with no attack errors and the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept UT Martin in the 2025 season-opener on a neutral floor on Saturday.
Â
The Pirates dominated the first two sets, but needed to rally from a 14-1 deficit in set three to complete the sweep. The Hall had a .280 attack percentage for the match and had 10 team blocks.
Â
Loiselle was brilliant offensively, collecting 10 kills, no attack errors and an .833 attack percentage. She nearly broke Seton Hall's single-match record for attack percentage, which was set by Baiba Zake (.846) in 1994.
Â
Senior Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) had a strong effort both offensively and defensively. She tallied a match-high seven blocks to go with five kills, and only one attack error. Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hi.) had eight kills, seven digs, five blocks and three aces, while freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) tallied six kills and eight digs.
Â
SET 1:
Clinging to a 6-5 lead, The Hall went on a 9-2 run fueled by a trio of aces from Alexis Opland (Woodbury, Minn.) and a pair Loiselle kills to race out to a 15-7 advantage. UT Martin cut their deficit to 22-14 late, but the Pirates closed out the season-opening set with three straight points. An ace by Roberts-Navarro put them in set point, and a block by Reich and Subasili was the set winner.
Â
SET 2:
The second set was significantly closer and featured seven ties and a pair of lead changes. Trailing 14-12, Seton Hall scored five of the next six points to grab a 17-15 lead. After the Skyhawks tied the score at 19, the Pirates scored three straight to take a 22-19 lead and force UT Martin's second time out. Another kill by Loiselle put Seton Hall in set point, 24-21, and a UT Martin attack error handed the Pirates a 25-21 set two victory.
Â
SET 3:
The third set didn't start well for Seton Hall as the Skyhawks raced out to a 14-1 lead. Down 16-5, the Pirates rediscovered their offensive might and scored five straight points to cut their deficit to 16-10 and force a UT Martin timeout. The break didn't stop The Hall's momentum as they scored five of the next seven points out of the timeout to pull to within three points, 18-15. Trailing 20-16, the Pirates scored four straight, and a block by Subasili and Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) tied the set at 20. The Skyhawks jumped back ahead, 22-21, but Seton Hall closed out the match with four straight points to complete the comeback.
