2025 SETON HALL PIRATES
Seton Hall will have a very different look this season as half of its roster is comprised of newcomers. The Hall was picked to finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference according to the preseason coaches poll, but with a talented group of returnees and a hungry batch of newcomers, the Pirates are poised to exceed expectations.
RETURNEES
Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye/Cankaya Doga) (Tekirdag, Turkey) is back for her final season to bolster the middle. The senior ranked second in the BIG EAST with 1.13 blocks per set in conference games and fifth in aces per set. Offensively, junior Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hi./Iolani School) (Honolulu, Hi.) will again lead the attack on the outside. She was 17th in the conference with 2.75 kills per set in 2024. One of the top liberos in the BIG EAST, Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) also returns after an injury-shortened 2024 campaign. The junior finished ninth in the conference in digs per set. Another Pirate returning from injury, Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) is poised to again be one of the top setters in the BIG EAST.
Junior Maddy Loiselle (Tampa, Fla.) will see plenty of time on the outside for the Pirates as she's coming off a season that featured 2.32 kills per set. After sitting out her freshman year, Hanna Labanowska (Olszewnica Stara, Poland) returns to bolster the Pirates' offensive attack. Unfortunately, the Pirates will be without Mason Woo (Burbank, Calif.) and Grace Turner (La Grange Highlands, Ill.), who will likely miss significant time while recovering from injury.
NEWCOMERS
The Hall welcomed eight total newcomers, seven freshman and a transfer, to complete its 2025 roster. The lone transfer, Loukia Papadakos (Stoufville, Ontario) is a 6-foot-3 middle blocker from George Washington University. Freshmen Kennedy Horn (Columbus, Ind.) and Alex Rasmussen (Lincoln, Neb.) also bring significant height in the middle, each towering at 6-foot-4.
Freshmen setters Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) and Alexis Opland (Woodbury, Minn.) will vie to get ample playing time alongside Adler if the Pirates are playing a 6-2 offense.
Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) bring the offense in this freshman class. Both hard hitters plan to be in the mix to start on the outside.
Finally, Rowan Carr (Lakeville, Minn.) figures to assist the Pirates on the defensive back line at libero or defensive specialist this season.
SCOUTING UT MARTIN
Seton Hall and UT Martin will meet for the first time ever on Saturday.
The Skyhawks are coming off a disappointing 5-22 season in 2024, which included only a 3-15 mark in Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) play. They concluded the season with six straight losses since a five-set victory over Tennessee State on Nov. 2.
This season, UT Martin was picked to finish ninth in the 11-team OVC according to the 2024 Preseason Coaches Poll. Skyhawk sophomore Kylie Surratt was noted as one of 10 returning All-OVC players this fall while senior Kayla Bryant earned a spot on the 11-member OVC Watch List. The duo of Surratt and Bryant are part of nine returners and three starters who are back for head coach Jaclynn Wilson's 11th season at the helm of UT Martin volleyball.
SCOUTING BELMONT
Seton Hall and Belmont will meet for the first time ever on Saturday.
The Bruins finished with an 11-19 overall record in 2024 and a 6-12 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The Bruins won three of their final five matches last season, including a sweep of Murray State to close out the slate, but did not qualify for the MVC Tournament.
Belmont was not picked to place in the top-4 for 2025. The MVC does not release its full preseason poll, and only noted that UNI was picked to win the conference, followed by UIC, Drake and Illinois State. The Bruins will have a new look in 2025 with the hiring of new head coach Friz Rosenberg.
SCOUTING LIPSCOMB
Lipscomb makes three straight opponents to open the season that the Pirates have never faced in program history.
The Bisons are coming off another strong season, which featured a 19-11 final record and an impressive 14-2 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) play. For a second consecutive season, Lipscomb made it to the championship game of the ASUN Tournament, but lost to top-seeded Florida Gulf Coast. Courtney Jones and Meg Mersman were selected to the All-Conference First Team, Sophia Hudepohl was listed on the Second Team, and Addi Pelham earned Third Team honors.
Lipscomb was picked to win the 12-team ASUN, according to the preseason coaches' poll. Senior outside hitter Aubrey LaPour was selected to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team. Voted on by the head coaches, Jones was named a unanimous selection to the preseason All-ASUN Team and has been chosen as an early favorite for Player of the Year. Hudepohl also secured a unanimous honor on the All-ASUN preseason team is Sophia Hudepohl. She's also the pick for the league's Setter of the Year.
