Carr's Heroics Power Pirates to Senior Day Win Over Butler

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Off the back of a titanic day from Kelsey Carr, the Seton Hall softball team (28-20, 11-10 BIG EAST) felled Butler (25-20, 14-10 BIG EAST), 6-5 in eight innings, on Senior Day.

How It Happened (Game One)
With major BIG EAST Tournament implications on the line, the Pirates came out strong in the field but ran cold at the plate. Through the first two innings, both sides sat locked in a 0-0 draw. While the Pirates collected a pair of baserunners, Kelsey Carr held the Bulldogs to a lone runner in the first two innings.

As the tension continued to rise, Butler struck first in the third inning when a two-RBI double put the visitors ahead, 2-0.

It took until the fourth inning for the Pirates to get onto the board, but when they finally did it came in a wave. After a leadoff single from Caroline Hobbes, Carr drew the count full and demolished a ball over the centerfield wall to tie the game at 2-2. Later in the inning, with two outs, Andrea Perez drove in Taylor Hill to give The Hall its first lead, 3-2, at the end of four innings.

A string of doubles put Butler in front in the top of fifth, 4-3, forcing Kyra Kreuscher into the game to take over for a fatiguing Carr. Kreuscher stemmed the bleeding, and Carr drove in Katey Brennan on an RBI double to tie the game at 4-4 through five innings.

As this tight battle waged on, Perez drove in Hill on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to put Seton Hall up 5-4 and on the precipice of a win. However, in the top of the seventh, the Pirates allowed Butler to get two runners on with one out. Despite, Amber Johnson's superhuman catch in centerfield saving a two-run double, the Bulldogs' runners tagged up and tied the game a 5-5 at the end of the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the frame, the Pirates attempted to claim the walk-off win when they loaded the bases with one out. However, a groundout and one runner getting caught in a rundown ended the Pirates attempt to even the game in regulation.

As the game moved into extra innings, Kreuscher came alive in the circle. She wrapped up the top of the frame in less than ten pitches, quashing the top of the Bulldogs' order to give The Hall a chance at the win. An inning-opening groundout felt like a potentially ominous moment of what was to come, but it was quite the opposite. After Seton Hall loaded the bases, Carr drove a ball off the left field wall, driving in a run and giving The Pirates the 6-5 victory.

The Pirates move to 28-20 on the season and 11-10 in BIG EAST play.
Seton Hall is 15-19 all-time against Butler, with the first matchup occurring in 2014.
Carr collected her 14^th home run of the season, setting a new career high.
- She also logged her first career four-hit game.
Brennan collected her 14^th multi-hit game of the season.
Hill earned her scored multiple runs for the eighth time this season.
Perez recorded her sixth multi-RBI game of the season.
With the win, the Pirates are 1-2 on the season in extra-inning games
