New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team won all six singles matches to defeat Colgate, 6-1, Saturday night at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.
After struggling in doubles and losing the point to the Raiders, Anastasia Sereda, Imogen Brooker, Paige Wise, Tamsin Hart, Isabelle May and Arabella Moen all won their singles matches to get the Pirates to 3-2 on the spring season.
"Today was hopefully a real eye opener for the girls," said head coach James Enzler. "Part of it was my fault; we did not properly get our heads in the right place starting doubles. Because of this, and credit to Colgate, they handed us an absolute beat down in doubles. Thankfully we talked before singles, and the girls came out with renewed intensity. I'm proud of them for rebounding and going into singles focused, but at some point this season, not starting doubles with the same kind of grit will cost us. Moving forward, we just need to the right mentality from the start."
Hart was the first Pirate to win in singles, dispatching Addie Eklund in the No. 4 position, 6-1, 6-0. She was quickly followed by Wise, who topped Anya Kunar in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Sereda was the third Pirate to be a straight sets winner, defeating Amelia Galin in the No. 1 position, 6-2, 7-6. Brooker clinched victory for Seton Hall in the No. 2 spot, as she outlasted Sophia Montero, coming back from a first set defeat to win 4-6, 7-5, 12-10.
Isabelle May and Arabella Moen were also three-set winners in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.
Seton Hall will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 14 in a unique split squad day. The Pirates will face Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn., at 11 a.m., and host Fairfield at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J., at 7 p.m.
