Seton Hall All-Time vs. Fairfield: 11-4
NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Seton Hall men's basketball team returns to Historic Walsh Gymnasium on Monday night to host Fairfield at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
- This marks the first meeting between the two schools since Dec. 22, 1980, when the Stags took down the Pirates, 65-63.
- Seton Hall's head coach during its last matchup against Fairfield was Bill Raftery, who was coaching his 11th and final season for the Pirates.
- Shaheen Holloway has coached against Fairfield 10 times in his career, owning a 6-4 record.
- Seton Hall ranks 13th in the nation with 8.5 blocks per game. Their 17 total blocks is their most through two games to start a season since at least 2004.
- The Pirates have won 35 of their last 38 games against non-conference foes inside Walsh Gymnasium dating back to 1989.
- The Pirates will play three regular season games inside Walsh Gymnasium for the first time since the 1990-91 season.
- Seton Hall improved to 2-0 with a 68-61 win over Wagner on Friday night, marking the Pirates' 17th straight victory over the Seahawks.
- Elijah Fisher led all scorers with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-14 shooting from the floor.
- Tajuan Simpkins posted his second double digit scoring output off the bench in as many games, registering 15 points in the win.
- Simpkins is the first Pirate with back-to-back double digit scoring games off the bench since Tray Jackson from Jan. 3-7, 2023.
- Stephon Payne had a stellar all-around game, finishing with seven points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.
- The Pirates opened the season on Monday night with a 77-50 victory over Saint Peter's at Prudential Center.
- Najai Hines was the story of the night for Seton Hall, showing out with a team-high 12 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
- Hines' six blocks were the most by a Pirate freshman since Mike Davis, who also had six at Saint Mary's on Dec. 1, 2007.
- It was also the most blocks by any Pirate since KC Ndefo swatted six shots against Lincoln on Dec. 7, 2022.
- Of the 277 Division I teams that played last Monday night, only 33 of them had more blocks as a team than Hines did individually.
- Ten different Pirates recorded at least one made field goal and three Seton Hall players finished in double figures.
- Elijah Fisher got the start on opening night for the Pirates as he begins his second stint in the BIG EAST Conference. Fisher spent one season with DePaul during the 2023-24 campaign.
- Fisher enters play with 945 career points.
- Seton Hall will play five consecutive home games to open the season for the first time since 1981-82.
- Seton Hall welcomes in 11 newcomers to the program to join a group of four returnees, highlighted by sophomores Godswill Erheriene and Jahseem Felton.
- Of those 11 newcomers, 10 players transfer into the program.
- Last season was an outlier in terms of Holloway's performances in conference play, finishing below .500 in league games for just the second time in seven seasons as a head coach.
- Holloway's first two seasons at Seton Hall were the winningest in program history in terms of both overall and BIG EAST wins.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
- Plenty of fresh faces will adorn the court at Prudential Center this season as 11 newcomers, 10 of whom are transfers, join the squad this season.
- The 10 transfers on the roster rank The Hall tied for eighth in the nation.
- Despite being new to Seton Hall, these transfers bring a wealth of experience and success to the roster.
- Four transfers have scored at least 900 points in their careers (Clark, Fisher, Rivera, Staton-McCray).
- Four players enter the program coming off double digit scoring averages a season ago (Clark, Fisher, Rivera, Simpkins).
- Seven transfers have started at least 20 games in their career, with four having started in at least 60 games prior to this season (Clark, Fisher, Payne, Staton-McCray).
