SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Graduate student Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) had 17 points and the Seton Hall women's basketball team played No. 9 Connecticut closely for three quarters, but faded late in an 83-59 loss on Wednesday.

The Hall led after the first quarter and cut its deficit to only nine points with 8:08 left in the game, but ran out of gas late in a highly-physical contest.

Baines had team-highs of 17 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Graduate student Brazil Harvey-Carr (Camden, N.J.) came off the bench and contributed 13 points on the strength of 4-for-7 shooting from three-point range.Â

THE STORY:
Down 8-4 early, The Hall erupted for a 12-1 run, and a baseline jumper by Baines gave The Hall a 16-9 advantage with 3:59 left in the opening quarter. Down 17-10, Connecticut scored seven straight to tie the game at 17, but back-to-back three-pointers by Harvey-Carr gave Seton Hall a 23-21 lead after 10 minutes.

A three-pointer by Micah Gray (Oklahoma City, Okla.) gave The Hall a 27-26 edge with 7:51 before halftime, but Connecticut stormed back with a 20-3 run over the next five minutes to grab a commanding 46-30 lead. The Huskies took a 51-33 lead into the break after shooting 71 percent from the floor in the first half.

Seton Hall cut its deficit to just 11 points on a slashing layup by Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) with 2:46 left in the third. The Pirates held UConn to just 31 percent shooting in the third and out-scored them, 18-to-10. The Hall trailed only 61-51 heading into the fourth quarter.
