
Pirates Drop Road Contest at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, WIS. – Five Pirates scored at least eight points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at Marquette, 80-61, on Sunday.

Seton Hall committed a season-high 23 turnovers and allowed a 16-0 second-quarter run which enabled Marquette to pull away.Â

Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) finished with a team-best 14 points to go with five rebounds and two steals. Sidney Cooks, a Kenosha, Wis. native, had a tough day shooting the ball in her homecoming, but still finished with 11 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) had 10 points and five rebounds.

Senior Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) had eight points and seven rebounds, while Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.) tallied eight points and five rebounds.

THE STORY:
Hagans  hit a three-pointer to cut The Hall's deficit to 8-7 early on, but Marquette answered with six consecutive points to grab a 14-7 advantage with just 2:45 left in the opening quarter. Thanks in large part to six Seton Hall turnovers in the first 10 minutes, the Golden Eagles carried an 18-13 lead into the second quarter.

Marquette dominated the second quarter, holding The Hall to just two made field goals. A pair of made free-throws by Satterfield cut got The Hall to within five points, 24-19, but Marquette then went on a 16-0 run to grab a commanding 42-19 advantage with 2:11 left to play before halftime.Â

The Hall committed 16 turnovers in the first half despite averaging just 13.5 per game, third-fewest in the BIG EAST. As a result, the Golden Eagles held a 45-22 lead at the break.

Down 48-24, The Hall went on an 8-0 run and a floater by Hagans cut its deficit to 48-32 with 6:37 left in the third quarter. The Pirates outscored Marquette, 23-18, in the third, and got the Golden Eagles lead down to as few as 15 points, but trailed, 63-45, after three quarters. In the fourth, The Hall never got closer than 17 points down.

- Seton Hall was 20-for-58 (34.5%) from the floor for the game, while Marquette was 29-for-66 (43.9%). The Hall was just 3-for-19 (15.8%) from three-point range, while the Golden Eagles were 9-for-19 (47.4%).Â
- Park-Lane finished with a team-high 14 points to go with five rebounds and two assists.
- The Hall out-rebounded Marquette, 43-to-36, including a 16-to-10 edge on the offensive glass and an 14-to-7 advantage in second-chance points.
- Cooks had 11 points, a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks.
- Seton Hall was 18-for-23 (78.3%) from the free-throw line, while Marquette was 13-for-17 (76.5%).Â
- Hagans had 10 points and five rebounds.
- Seton Hall forced 10 turnovers, while Marquette forced 23. The Golden Eagles had a 25-to-7 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
