3/27/2022 10:00:00 AM | Women's Golf
JOHNS CREEK, GA. – The Seton Hall women's golf team will return to action on March 28-29 for three rounds of golf at the Georgia State Spring Invitational at Rivermont Golf Club.
Â
Tournament Details:
GEORGIA STATE SPRING INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Georgia State University
Location:Â Johns Creek, Ga.
Course:Â Rivermont Golf Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,255 yards
Dates:Â March 28-29, 2022
Â
THE COURSE:
Rivermont's centerpiece is the Championship 18-Hole Golf Course originally designed by Joe Lee which underwent a complete re-design by golf course designer, Michael Riley in 2006. The improvements transformed what was already an excellent layout and course into one of the most critically acclaimed courses in Georgia today. Over the last forty-seven years the course has maintained the integrity and beauty of the natural environment and continues to challenge to the low handicapper as well as the new player. Continued improvements over the years, specifically in 2015-2016 and 2019-2020 have helped elevate Rivermont's reputation among golfers both locally and even nationally.
Â
Rivermont has been honored to host nearly thirty qualifiers for the United States Golf Association (local qualifying for the US Open and sectional qualifying for the US Senior Open, the US Mid-Amateur, the US Women's Mid-Amateur and the Men's Four-Ball Championship) as well as more than a dozen Atlanta Amateur Championships for the Georgia State Golf Association. We have also hosted events for the Georgia Section of the PGA, the Atlanta Junior Golf Association and the Southern Golf Association. In 2018, Rivermont hosted the Georgia State Golf Association Junior Championship in June and in 2019 Rivermont Golf Club received an award as the "Best Golf Club" in Johns Creek. In 2023, Rivermont will host the Georgia State Amateur Championship.
Â
THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and host Georgia State, the field is comprised of 13 other teams including: Arkansas State, Boston College, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, Oral Roberts and Winthrop. BIG EAST competitor Xavier is also in the field.
Â
THE FORMAT
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
Â
THE LINEUP
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup to Georgia:
Senior Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) shot her second-consecutive 3-over-par, 75, to power the Pirates to a second-place finish at the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational on March 12.
Â
Fouratt was the top Pirate for the tournament, placing fifth among 92 individual golfers with a 6-over-par, 75-75-150. The Pirate captain notched her fourth career top-5 finish.
Â
Scores were up across the field as poor weather hampered play in round two. As a team, the Pirates shot a 20-over-par, 308, in round two, but it was actually the best round of the day in the field. However, The Hall was only able to gain one stroke on Sacred Heart and ended up finishing second by four strokes. For the tournament, the Pirates were 28-over-par with a 296-308-604. They finished 17 strokes in front of third-place Lehigh.
Â
LAST TIME AT RIVERMONT
Former Pirates Lizzie Win and Mia Kness each fired a 1-over-par, 73, in the final round to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a seventh-place tie at the Georgia State Invitational last year.
Â
As a team, Seton Hall had its best single round of the tournament on Tuesday, shaving off four strokes from its second-round score. The Pirates tied South Alabama for seventh place with a 41-over-par, 301-304-300-905. BIG EAST rival Xavier won the team title at 18-over-par.
Â
The top Pirate for the tournament was Ginevra Ricciardelli (Rome, Italy). Ricciardelli was done in by a triple-bogey on the par-3, No. 14 hole, but otherwise had a solid final round, finishing with an 8-over-par, 80. For the event, she tied for 16th place with an 8-over-par, 74-70-80-224.
Â
TEE TIMES
The field will play two continuous rounds on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. On Tuesday, there will be one final round, also with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from Lipscomb and Houston Baptist in the first two rounds.
