
Pirates Finish Fall Season With Strong Performances at Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team ended the fall season with very strong performances at the Fordham Invitational over the weekend, including a clean sweep of all of its doubles matches. The Pirates won all seven doubles matches they played over the course of two days while going 8-7 in singles matches.
On Saturday, the Pirates competed against various members of the Columbia, LIU and Providence teams, coming away with a strong 5-2 team victory. The top doubles performances came from Anastasia Petrova and Arabella Moen, who posted a clean sweep of Providence's Lauren Carson and Olivia Wheldon, 6-0, and Arina Gumerova and Chloe Hamlin, who topped Columbia's Catie Sullivan and Rachele Rimondini in a tiebreaker, 7-6(2).Â
In singles, the teams played to eight, and the Pirates had a pair of competitors finish with 8-1 wins in Moen and Aina Plana Ventosa. In addition, transfer Chloe Hamlin picked up her first career singles win as a Piate, taking down Providence's Emmie Lindholm in a tiebreaker, 8-7(2).Â
On Sunday, The Hall competed mostly against Fordham, sweeping the Rams in the doubles action and taking two of five singles matches to result in a 3-3 draw. Gumerova and Hamlin again were solid in their doubles win over Valeriya Deminova and Lorraine Bergmann.
Petrova posted the top singles win over the Rams, defeating Eleni Fasoula in comeback fashion, 2-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Plana Ventosa ended up unbeaten over the course of the weekend, teaming together with Hiba El Khalifi to win both of their doubles matches and then going 2-0 in singles.
Seton Hall will continue training for the spring championship season and will re-commence competition on January 28 at Army West Point. In the spring season, the Pirates will host eight matches; view the entire schedule for more information.
